any news from kray world?
Re: any news from kray world?
Sketchup is great! I've seen many many great renders from users the same quality as kray forum users.
If I were to target market it would be 3dmax, maya, c4d in that order.
But sketchup would be 2nd if there wasn't already kray for it.
Targetting markets like modo, xsi, houdini would be a waste. Granted they're great programs they're still low market penetration and more specialist appz compared to the top 3.

And C4d isn't a specialized app??? Sketch is even more so. And by your own words, it's done well. There is no reason why Kray couldn't do just as well in these other (modo & xsi), more industry used, apps you mentioned.jnom wrote:Sketchup is great! What about Daz3d and Blender?
If you are going after markets which are emerging (although Blender has been around for a long time), popular, and don't have an established number 1 render engine, these two are a good start.
I do wonder how many Blender users would be prepared a reasonable amount for a good render engine. I haven't seen too many Blender Vray renders. Daz has Carrara, but Kray blows that away.
Poser is another option. Kray needn't be just for architectural or product images, what can't it be used for characters as well?
I know GT has a subsurface scattering shader for Kray, but I'm not sure whether it is exposed to the UI.

Re: any news from kray world?
I doubt if there's enough resources to develop for other appz besides the top 3. That's my point.
C4d is not a specialized app imho. Its a generalist app. Its not similar to modo where the focus is modelling and asset creation. Imho modo already has a good renderer almost on par to vray quality. I doubt there will be significant sales from modo users. Make a poll at lux to see if they think kray is something they might need over the native renderer.
Sketchup is specialized but it is the kind of app that kray was made for.
It doesn't have a good native renderer and its aimed at visualization which kray is very well suited. The market is also huge. Its definitely in the top 3 target for third party renderers.
Houdini is a specialized and most productions use it for vfx where kray is not really suited for atm. And not many studios can afford houdini anyway so the market is limited.
Xsi though a very powerful generalist app has not really penetrated the market as much as the top 3.
With blender I doubt also if people who are using opensource app are willing to pay for a renderer. Lets be honest here even the donations from users to developer of Bmesh is slow. Bmesh in lightwave if he just licensed the tech.
I think Daz is a good market. The people really spend over there for models, textures, etc. But will kray be easy enough to use for daz users who are used to more user friendly app.
Wouldn't it be great if there was a daz version of kray that's as easy to use as frprime?

Re: any news from kray world?
Kray can definitely be made easy enough for Daz. Materials are complex in themselves, more like the Max/Maya node-based approach.
Kray has render presets, which is the same approach that Podium uses. There seems to me to be no reason why if someone is prepared to develop an interface which allows simple selection of render presets, but also allows the full set of parameters to be adjusted. You could even use a 'Render Configuration Wizard' which has a series of steps based on questions. For example:-
Select an item to adjust:-
Blotches
Brightness
Antialiasing
Accuracy
etc
You don't have to remove all the complexity, but it is possible to have a UI overlay which makes modifying render settings less daunting for the novice.
If there was a common format for Kray presets between all render platforms, it would massively improve the chances of success. Daz users definitely spend money!

Re: any news from kray world?
There should be a simple mode and an advance mode for kray. Even lw or sketchup version should have this. Maybe in kray 3.0.
There's a vray plugin that simplifies rendering. Its solidrocks for vray.
You only really need to adjust a few sliders. Its easy. Then you can focus on lighting the scene and materials while the renderer is less complicated.

Re: any news from kray world?
Wow - Solidrocks, although much simpler than the usual UI, is still quite complicated! There are some things Kray could learn from it though. Automatic white balance, realtime tonemapping are just two.
Thanks for the info!

I dont know how else solidrocks could be simpler besides fprime. Its very easy to use.bigstick wrote:Wow - Solidrocks, although much simpler than the usual UI, is still quite complicated! No technical terms like N, precache distance, prerender %, etc. An artist can be doing great renders in weeks of training not months.
Re: any news from kray world?
I'm all for ease of use, but to me that's a lesser issue if you have good training. I'd really like to see something like this for KRAY: http://vimeo.com/13696854jnom wrote:I dont know how else solidrocks could be simpler besides fprime. Not so much for modeling, but texturing, material setup, lighting setup, and post. Then things like N, precache distance, prerender %, etc. become less of an obstacle.

hello bro this one .
its very easy i have this training . and i have this object with textures i will work on it . without ps better then this one only kray render pure render .
Cheers
Re: any news from kray world?
Just so I understand you correctly, you're saying you have this training I linked above? And when you say, "I will work on it." are you saying you'll doing some training similar?lightwave3d wrote:hello bro this one .

That would be way cool. If that's not what you're saying on the second question, but you do have this training, how well does it translate over to Kray?

Any news about next update(s) or version of KRay? Are you waiting for LW11 release?

When do you think it could happen?
